Ярослав Пеликан, р. 1923. Родители приехали в США из Словакии в 1923, родился в том же году в Akron, Огайо. Дед - священник Ян Пеликан, р. 1870, в Холиче, деревня в Словакской Моравии, неподалеку Годонин, где родился Масарик, и в семье чтили Масарика. Отец и дед твердые лютеране, пасторы, дед президент словацких лютеран в США. Для Пеликана было два героя: Масарик - правитель-философ, и о. Георгий Флоровский как ученый-теолог. Отец Пеликана брал у Масарика интервью в 1922 г. о необходимости отделения Церкви от государства в Чехословакии. Ок. Богосл. семинарии Конкордиа в 1946, Чикагский ун-тет.С 1962 в Йельском ун-те до 1972 профессор церк. истории, был тут же деканом в 1975-78 гг. Автор популярнейшего пятитомника по истории христианской мысли, всевозможных наград и пр. На Благовещение 1998 г митр. Феодосий его через миропомазание принял в православие. Пеликан стал преподавать в Св.-Владимирской семинарии. Дружил со Шмеманом и Мейендорфом. Дети: Мартин и Майкл, дочь Мириам. Жена Сильвия.
